It’s a jungle out there

The summer is well and truly upon us and, despite the huge number of Singaporeans going abroad for their summer holidays, the studio has been busier than ever. That’s a good thing, of course!

August came and went with a number of big jobs, but arguably the biggest (and the best!) was the wedding of Jaqueline and Andrew. The ceremony and lunch reception were held at the Anglo-Chinese School at Barker Road, with the dinner reception taking place at the Shangri-La Hotel downtown. Two rather prestigious locations, so no pressure!

Jaqueline gave us a surprise with her brief of tropical greens with a touch of white throughout the bridal party, table arrangements and bridal car flowers, with the added complication of needing to build a ‘living wall’ as a back drop for the top table; no mean feat and one which involved buckets, bamboo and mixing concrete! Off to work we went. The wonderful thing about Singapore is the abundance of tropical foliage, so we used the ever-dependable monsterra leaf, fan palm, yellow palm, fern and cordyline for the wall, while the bridal party flowers focussed on seeded eucalyptus, fern and greenbell.

The most time-consuming aspect turned out to be the table arrangements; partly due to the sheer number required (48 of all shapes and sizes) and partly because a lot of them had to be assembled on site. Those in question comprised tall glass vases with ferns, yellow palm, and cordyline providing the wild, jungle-look, and the touch of white in the form of large phaelaenopsis orchids. They brought the eye up a level while keeping the tables relatively clear for guests to chit-chat, and looked simply stunning.

It’s quite rare to provide ‘just greens’ for a wedding, but it has been a really lovely experience and, even if we do say so ourselves, the end result was pretty darn spectacular!
